Scenic Rim Regional Council hosts successful Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Expo

Back

Scenic Rim Regional Council hosted a Safety, Health, and Wellbeing Expo at The Centre Beaudesert as part of their Health and Wellbeing Program and Safe Work Month. The event brought together staff from councils across the region. It provided a valuable opportunity to promote workplace safety and highlight the importance of holistic wellbeing for employees.

Representatives from Local Government Mutual Services (LGMS), Lesley Harpeng and Adam Stevenson, attended the Expo and were impressed with how this event engaged staff, encouraging them to learn about workplace safety a practical and hands-on way.

The Expo was designed for all employees, featuring a number of two-hour sessions throughout the day. Each session included special guest speakers, such as safety advocates Gavan McGuane and Jodie and Mario Cocco, who shared personal stories about the importance of safety at work. Council employees also explored a variety of stalls offering resources ranging from first aid and PPE advice to mental health support services.

Beyond safety education, the event also focused on overall health and wellbeing. Staff joined cooking lessons led by Caz Osborne, learning to make healthy meals like veggie-packed breakfasts and homemade gnocchi—recipes they could easily recreate at home. These sessions added a fun, interactive element to the day, showing that wellbeing goes beyond safety and into everyday life.

At each session, employees left with new knowledge, safety gifts, and chances to win great prizes in the lucky draws.

The Scenic Rim Regional Council’s event is a great example of how councils can take proactive steps to support the health and wellbeing of their staff. Events like these create a safer and more positive work environment, encouraging meaningful conversations about workplace safety and wellness.

LGMS encourages other councils to consider hosting or attending similar initiatives to promote wellbeing among their staff.
