$80k WHS penalty – A reminder for fresh eyes on risks

A Queensland council was recently fined $80,000 by the Magistrates Court for breach of section 40(c) of the Electrical Safety Act 2002 (Qld). The incident involved a council employee operating an aluminium pole pool cleaner at a swimming centre when it came into proximity with a set of overhead uninsulated high voltage (110 kilovolt) electric powerlines located 8.1m above the pool.
